Tanya Mahar

My meditation journey began in 1998, and since then my practice has been a huge help in managing anxiety, addiction, and health challenges. Really, it helps me with all the hard bits of being human, and also opens me up to ever-deepening presence and peace. My practice has profoundly changed my life for the better, and for this reason I truly love teaching and supporting others on their journey.
I’ve been leading meditation classes and workshops since 2011 at Grail Springs Retreat for Wellbeing, as well as in a variety of private and community settings. I started facilitating residential meditation retreats in 2019, and am thrilled to be part of the Seeds team that continues to offer retreats at Mount Carmel in Ontario, Canada.
I was introduced to Shinzen Young in 2016, and his teachings had such a positive impact on my practice that I became a Certified Teacher/Trainer in his Unified Mindfulness system in 2023. While I’ve had the honour of learning from several brilliant teachers over the years, Shinzen’s work continues to most strongly influence my approach to meditation and how I can best support others.
Practicing in community is powerful, and this was my motivation for creating Seeds, which was founded in early 2023 as a container to offer in-person retreats at the Monastery of Mount Carmel. It then grew to an online space where wonderful, experienced teachers offer free, weekly meditation sessions to anyone, anywhere, who is interested in learning about or deepening their practice in a welcoming, friendly community.
Please feel welcome to drop into my weekly Seeds sessions, or contact me to discuss 1-1 coaching, private workshops or in-person meditation retreats taking place in Ontario, Canada.
I look forward to practicing together!
Warmly, Tanya
